The Abuja Declarion the outcome of aconference of the African countries of the (OIC)in 1989 and launched by a communiqué of theIslam in Africa Organisation (IAO) foundedduring this conference.The Islam in Africa Organisation (IAO) is aNigerian satuted Islamic organisation, aninitiative of the Organisation of the IslamicConference (OIC).Dr. Usman Muhamad Bugaje the currentSecretary- General of the IAO,The organisation was founded on 28 November1989 in Abuja, [1] Nigeria, with the goal to winthe whole of Africa for Islam. The statutes andgoals [2][3] are ratified in 1991 and this marksher formal definitive founding. The founding- communiqué is also called the AbujaDeclaration . [4] Startingpoint for the conferenceis the fact that Africa is the only continent withan Islamic majority and therefore Africa shouldfairly represent Islam in government and civiclife [5]The plan contains a lot of points that are alsocommon for Christian missionary organisationsas relief and economic progression.To promote the unity and solidarity of theMuslim ummah throughout Africa and the restof the world and to support, encourage andenhance Islamic propagation and resurgencegenerally. To promote peace, harmony andhuman development and strive to remove allforms of discrimination, human exploitation andoppression especially in Africa and the world ingeneral. To support, enhance and coordinateDawah work in all parts of Africa and propagatethe knowledge of Islam throughout thecontinent. To promote the dissemination of theknowledge of sharia and support its applicationto Muslim communities in Africa. To strive forthe evolution of the economies of the ummah inconformity with the sharia and the attainment ofeconomic self-sufficiency and self-reliance inAfrica by promoting industrialization, trade andoverall economic development. To encourageand support human resource developmentprogramme in Africa, particularly the educationand development of the Muslim youth and toensure that women are accorded their rightfulplace in society as enshrined in the sharia. Toserve as a mouthpiece for the articulation ofissues of common concern to Muslimcommunities in Africa and the rest of the world.To undertake research and publications on allaspects of Islamic history and Islamicintellectual heritage in Africa. To undertake thetranslation of Islamic works into various Africanlanguages and their dissemination. To promotethe learning of Arabic language throughoutAfrica. To promote respect and undertakemeasures for relief and comfort of those indistress in Africa and other parts of the world.To promote respect for human rights anddignity and to support, with appropriate means,all causes of general justice and freedomthroughout the world. To cooperate with othernational and international bodies to uplifthuman dignity and enhance human welfare inAfrica and in the world in.
