The African National Congress has received reports of the Budget - TopicsExpress

The African National Congress has received reports of the Budget Vote delivered by President Zuma in Parliament today with great excitement of the successes recorded and with immense hope in the vision moving forward. The ANC welcomes the report on the performance of the economy over the last 19 years and indeed we concur with The Presidency that the showing of the economy is a clear indicator of what we can achieve working together. We are especially heartened by the successes outlined, particularly the 83% expansion of the economy over the past 19 years and the 40% increase in national income per capita from R27 500 in 1993 to R38 500 in 2012. That employment has increased by more than 3,5 million since 1994 is indicative of the ANC government’s commitment to creating jobs and sustainable livelihoods. The ANC welcomes the commitment made by the Presidency to strengthen confidence in the economy, particularly seeking to intervene to halt the instability in the mining sector. The ANC has noted the challenges that still remain, particularly in relation to our advance for socio-economic freedom. Government must accelerate the unblocking of bottlenecks in relation to infrastructure development and the promulgation of legislation to widen the reach and impact of policies such as Black Economic Empowerment. The President’s call for partnerships with all social partners, including the private sector, to deal with the challenge of youth unemployment must serve as a clarion call to all to be part of building the sort of society that we all, individually and collectively, envisage. That the successes of the ANC government are many as outlined in The Presidency’s budget vote is undisputed. We are confident and we proclaim with no fear of contradiction that South Africa is on the right track with government continuing to deliver on the aspiration and mandate of the people.
