The Alabama Historical Commission proudly welcomes Mrs. Dianne Bentley, wife of Governor Robert Bentley, to a luncheon benefiting the historic house museum, Fendall Hall. Advanced tickets are required and a limited number are still available. To enjoy lunch with the First Lady, contact Deborah Casey (334-687-8469) at Fendall Hall. Profits benefit the continued preservation of this state-owned landmark. The May 8 luncheon is part of an entire weekend of events in Eufaula focused on the art of quilting. An exhibit of antique and modern quilts, sponsored by Fendall Hall, opens at the Eufaula/Barbour County Chamber of Commerce at 9am. See the exhibit, Mother’s Work, at the Carnegie Library, sponsored by Eufaula Art Scene. The Mothers Work exhibit will be open the month of May. The Quilt Exhibit will be open May 8 through 10. Joyce Cauthen, author of Out of Whole Cloth-The Life of Bettye Kimbrell, signs and gives a talk on her book at 10am. Don’t miss an opportunity to meet Kimbrell, a nationally acclaimed Alabama quilter, as she also signs books and talks quilting. Folk musicians Jim and Joyce Cauthen begin activities Friday, May 9 with a 9am guitar and fiddle performance. At 11am quilting instructor and professional quilt appraiser Sherry Burkhalter, conducts a quilting workshop that includes information about preserving quilts. Saturday May 10, take your afternoon tea at Fendall Hall. It is an experience not to miss! Tickets are required. The Third Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon is held at noon on Sunday, May 11. A local caterer provides meals “fit for a queen” in this 1860s Italianate-styled, historic setting. Advance tickets for both events are available at Fendall Hall. Make Mother’s Day an event by spending the weekend in Eufaula the much acclaimed, Prettiest Small Town in Alabama.
