The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority presented Dorothy Davis, Chair of SMWF/International, with its Global Poverty Award for her body of work during their North Atlantic Regional Conference Public Meeting held on April 24, 2014 in Washington, DC. Ms. Davis dedicated the award to the memory of her Grandmother and Aunt who had been AKA Sorors. On behalf of AKA Soror President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the market women of Liberia, she then thanked the AKAs for raising $500,000 through the SMWF Adopt-a-Market campaign to build the Omega Market in Liberia. She ended her remarks by accepting the award on behalf of Liberias market women who had fed the country of Liberia across enemy lines throughout its war and significantly contributed to its peace. Each of the five honorees was required to produce an introductory video of themselves. Here is the one about Ms. Davis.
