The Alumni Association and RHS Parent Group held a joint meeting - TopicsExpress

The Alumni Association and RHS Parent Group held a joint meeting on Monday, August 25 to discuss important cuts and changes outlined by the district. RHS Principal, Anita Williams, was in attendance. She made clear facts involving the cuts. The DPS Emergency Manager, Jack Martin, will not fill any vacancies that occur as a result of retirement. RHS has three such positions as the dance, band, and a Social Studies teacher have retired. The district also cut a math and English position. The Principal does not want to lose the positions but is unable to make cuts to the core academic subjects to sustain the positions. The overwhelming response from those in attendance is that the students deserve these programs and they are necessary to maintain the high caliber educational program that RHS provides. Also at issue is the mandated 43 students per class. We are asking for everyone to participate in a political campaign blitz to ask that the positions continue to be funded. Please contact our district representative, Rebecca Luna, at 313-873-7966. Also contact the Emergency Manager Jack Martin, 14th Floor, Fisher Building, 3011 West Grand Blvd., Det. 48202. His phone number is 313-870-3772. Also contact Governor Rick Snyder, P.O. Box 30013, Lansing, MI 48909, 517-373-3400.
