The Amazwi Omzansi Africa National Singing Competition was held on the 29th & 30th March 2014 at Howard Collage Theatre UKZN. The winners of Amazwi Omzansi Africa National Singing Competition 2014 held are: 1st Prize: The Katharine Grice Award: R10 000 Bongani Kubheka - Baritone Two second prizes awarded for the 2nd Prize: Diemersfontein Wines Excellence Out of Africa Trust Awards. Thembisile Twala - Mezzo-Soprano & Noluvuyiso Mpofu - Soprano The 3rd Prize: The Les Azuriales Festival Award Sandile Sikhosana - Baritone The 4th Prize - To an artist of Great Promise and potential before formal training. All the way from Swaziland. Sibusiso Dlamini - Tenor There were three other Prizes of R1000 each to singers who have very accomplished, polished and memorable performances. All of them are highly recommended. 1. Kananelo Sehau - Tenor 2. Khanyiso Gwenxane - Tenor 3. Nomsa Mpofu - Soprano The decision was the hardest one to make so far in the history of this competition. However there was a unanimous vote for the overall winner - Bongani Justice Kubheka. We are grateful to all the supporters and people who came, the panel Colleen Philp, Bongiwe Madlala, Violina Anguelov and Raphael Vilakazi. Terence Terence Marais for helping put the event together. Thank you. We are hugely grateful to our pianist for the entire week of workshops and the competition itself. This man gave us all of himself, he is a dedicated, passionate and a colleague who brought years of experience and knowledge to this last week and weekend and supported the singers to the best level. Thank you for your gift Juan Burgers. Thank you also to the singing teachers for all their hard work with the students. All the singers who came gave such polished, advanced and really high quality performances because of the hard work their teachers put in. Congratulations to you all. A special congratulations to Patrick Tikolo & UCT whose students won five of the 8 prizes. Most importantly our supporters and sponsors who really really made this happen.
