The American Legion of New London is hosting a late lunch today to honor the teaching and administrative staff of New London High School for their dedication to the families and community members the legion serves. “They’ve donated a lot to the American Legion and we’re honoring them because we appreciate their support,” American Legion Unit 9 Auxiliary President Gloria Jackson said this week. “They’re so sweet. Each Christmas and Easter they bake cookies, brownies and cupcakes, wrap presents and fill baskets, in addition to giving us cash donations.” High school Principal Tommy Thompson, School Resource Officer Max Bertsch and members of the Board of Education will also be recognized. In addition, certificates will be given to Hunter Roman, the high school’s student of the month, and Grace Sanchez, New London High School’s Employee of the Month. Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) officers CMDR Ted Ward and Senior Chief Brian Smith will also receive certificates in appreciation of their dedication to the legion. Students in the NJROTC often complete their community service hours at the American Legion by helping to bus tables and serve food during legion events. Superintendent of Schools Nicholas A. Fischer, Board of Education President Margaret Curtin, Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio and Special Master Steven Adamowski have also been invited to attend.
