The Anointing of the Holy Spirit Teaches Us 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (1 John 2:27 KJV) In today’s passage of Scripture John is telling the church that if we have the anointing of God those who are false teachers will not be able to fool us. Earlier in the book of John, he warns them to beware of false teachers and antichrists, which have already come on the scene to deceive us. Before Jesus’ crucifixion He told His disciples that He must leave so that he could send the Holy Spirit and that He, the Holy Spirit would teach them all things (John 14:26). It is the through the anointing of the Holy Spirit that we are able to receive the fullness of the Word of God when we read the Bible. 1 Corinthians 2:14 – 15 states, “14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.” The Bible is the Word of God who is Spirit and therefore it is spiritually discerned. If we are in the flesh we will not be able to understand nor comprehend the Word of God because it cannot be understood by the natural mind. The Holy Spirit will teach us the truth of the Word of God and also will reveal anything that is not right. 1 John 2:20, states, “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” We will know when it is not the truth because we receive an unction or otherwise a gut feeling from the Holy Spirit. We can only have this unction if we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. 1 John 3:24 states, “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” If we keep God’s commandments then we dwell in Him and He in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. When we allow the power of the Holy Spirit to operate in our lives to the point that He is able to take total control, then we will receive more understanding of the Word of God and then we will be able to comprehend. Jeremiah 31:33 - 34 tells us, “33 The new covenant that I will make with the people of Israel will be this: I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 None of them will have to teach a neighbor to know the LORD, because all will know me, from the least to the greatest. I will forgive their sins and I will no longer remember their wrongs. I, the LORD, have spoken. Notice God said that He would place His Word in them and write them on our hearts. This is to say that when we receive the power of the Holy Spirit and when we study the Word of God it is written in our hearts. God then says that we will no longer have to teach one another to come to know the Lord because we will all know Him. This was God’s intent from the beginning, but the fall of man prevented this from happening. However if we all tell two people about God and they continue that trend then everyone will know the Lord. Some people think that we are not able to receive the things that our pastors and those in the ministry receive, but when we receive the power of the Holy Spirit then we will be able to receive the revelation if we would only commit ourselves to prayer and to study of the Word of God. Some will take this scripture to tell us that we dont need to go to church because the Holy Spirit will tell us what we need to know, but this could not be further from the truth. We all need a Pastor or shepherd to lead and guide us because there are times when God will give our spiritual leaders special revelation that we may not get otherwise. Finally we must obey the teachings of God through the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 8:31 – 32, “31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” We must continue in the study and teachings of the Word of God and we will be free to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus. May the God of peace and the peace and love of God be with you always!
