The Armor is the Word and the Word is Jesus By Peggy Toolen © August 2013 John 1:1-3 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 The same was in the beginning with God.3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. Verse 14 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD! Armor of God I always had a hard time understanding how to put on the armor of God. I thought praying and seeing myself putting on that particular piece was how to do it but that’s not it. Check this out… Shield of Faith – Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. How do we get faith? Hearing the word of God! Belt of Truth - John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus is the truth and since Jesus is the word reading the word is how you put it on! Helmet of Salvation – Need to hear, read, study the word of God to get the faith to receive this. Takes faith to receive salvation. So how do we put on the helmet of Salvation? Read, study, hear, understand the word! Breastplate of Righteousness - Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. So righteousness comes from Jesus and Jesus is the Word. Read, study, hear, know and understand the word of God! Shoes of Peace – This is the preparation to share the gospel with others. You can only be prepared to do that by studying and knowing and accepting the word of God. And of course… The Sword of the Spirit as it says right there in Ephesians this is the word of God also. So putting on the armor is the same thing as putting on Christ! Putting on Christ is putting on the Word! How do we put on the Word? Read, study, hear and know the bible. Reading, studying, hearing and knowing God’s Word, covers us with an armor of protection against the enemy! Awesome! This puts a new light on the phrase “In Christ” “In Him” or when Jesus is speaking, “In Me” John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Why is this? Because if we abide in Jesus, the Word, then we know what his will is and if we know what his will is we know how to pray. And if we know how to pray then we know our prayers will be answered! 1 John 5:14-15 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. So we can see from this how VERY important it is that we spend a lot of time reading, hearing, studying and memorizing and even meditating on the Word of God! The more we hear, read, study, memorize and meditate on the Word of God the more we know Jesus!
