The Badass Teachers Association, a Facebook page which was started June 14th and which now has 24,000 teachers nationwide, would like to make a public statement about the NYS test scores that came out yesterday. BATs refuse to accept assessments created and imposed by corporate driven entities that have contempt for authentic teaching and learning. BATs feel that the real failures in this testing fiasco are not the children or teachers of NYS but the U.S. Department of Education, The New York State Department of Education, The New York State Board of Regents, and New York State Governor Cuomo. Those who administer and score these tests bear responsibility for the gratuitous humiliation of thousands of special needs students and English language learners throughout the state who should never have been forced to take these tests. The public will soon realize all of the above entities don’t have helping children in mind but the special interests that line their pockets with money.
