The Baltimore Ravens have retained one of their key defensive pieces, agreeing to a four-year, $16.1 million deal with linebacker Daryl Smith, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Smith, 31, was the reason no one talked about the Ravens missing Ray Lewis in 2013. Signed in June after Rolando McClain retired, Smith finished with 123 tackles, five sacks, three interceptions, 19 passes defensed and two forced fumbles. He also returned an interception 37 yards for a game-turning touchdown in a 30-9 victory over Houston. It was a bounce-back season for Smith, who played in only two games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 because of a sports hernia. A second-round pick by Jacksonville in 2004, Smith left as the Jaguars all-time leading tackler. He hasnt been to a Pro Bowl despite producing consistently good numbers (he averaged 103 tackles a season from 2009 to 2011).
