The Bergdahl case: IMHO the President simply wants to close Guantanamo and shut down the Afghan War no matter what anyone else thinks. Hes even willing to make all the sacrifices everyone made be in vain because he doesnt believe in it. The fact that these animals helped kill 3000 Americans on 911 doesnt matter to him anymore, if it ever did. This trade, giving away the worst terrorists of the lot, simplifies it for him. If he gets away with this, the rest will be easier to sell because they are less threatening. The WH thought the Bergdahl thing would soften it, but miscalculated and now have a backlash on their hands. Bergdahl is a deserter and the Army knew it all along. So did many of hte rest of us who paid attention to his story as it unfolded. None of this is new, but was kept as secret as possible by the Pentagon and ignored by the press. I dont think the President cares. Hes not up for re-election and now is simply acting as our local dictator. Hes going to do what he wants unless someone stops him. Thats basically it.
