The Bible - A Life Lesson from Every Chapter: 2 Samuel chapter 2 KEY PASSAGE: Then it came about afterwards that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” So David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.” — 2 Samuel 2:1 APPLICATION: David really wanted to know if it was time for him to be crowned king, so he asked of God, “Shall I go up to one of the cities?”. He waited patiently on God for further instruction. And God revealed His plan to David. He said, in effect, “Begin your reign in Hebron.” Today, we may find ourselves in situations in which we wonder, “God has obviously opened the door, and I’m about to walk through it. But . . . is that what I should do?” Our tendency is to race in when there is some benefit, some strategic opportunity, that will come our way. Sometimes it’s best to begin very quietly . . . to apply restraint . . . to pace our first steps with great care.
