The Billy Graham rule. Its alive and well, alas. Too long to tell the whole story, but Im still just royally ticked off and furiously offended .... a woman in need of a ride to the far north side, a man who had the means to take her, refused because he couldnt drive a woman, especially a woman like [her]. What?? He asked me, but I couldnt, not that far at that time of night, especially because I was already committed to giving someone else a ride in the other direction. He had the ability and refused because of some silly rule. Oh my God, I still cant believe it. I had some words with him, but he didnt, couldnt hear me. Get this: the guy actually ended up calling his wife to come and take this woman where she needed to go. Yes, at least she got a ride, but it was so disgusting and offensive to me that such a question could even arise. How on earth can we as servants of Jesus place appearances and silly rules above human need? How can we be worried about our reputation and what people might think when someone is in need? Oh God, have mercy!
