The Biofilm Story, part 4: The SOLUTION THE SOLUTION A comprehensive systematic solution to aid in the re-establishment of Oral Ecosystem Balance and Biofilm Modification is suggested here. This is to be achieved through selective environmental pressure to suppress pathogenic bacteria and fungi from flourishing in the oral biofilm, thus preventing them from threatening the health of the oral human structures (i.e. teeth, gums, bones and soft tissue) and the rest of the human body as discussed above. A critical aspect of this proposed system is that it cannot include any hazardous, carcinogenic, toxic or potentially poisonous substances that are typically widespread in conventional dental cleaning product. The Universality and effectiveness of this system must rely on its inherent safety across humans, ease of use (for compliance) and long-term application, ideally over a lifetime, to continue to help counteract the multitude of adverse risk factors that an individual will be exposed to during their lifetime. Health can only be maintained and brought back to balance every time it sways out of balance, which happens very often and in variable frequencies and states between individuals. Homeostasis is a flowing state, not a static point in time. Dealing with these severe variations and tribulations does not involve magic, rather evidence-based logic. Ideal goals of a properly designed risk management system and oral care product system dictate the following: Establish a Biofilm balancing shift from predominantly highly pathogenic bacteria and fungi to one of predominantly friendly organisms, thereby creating an ecologically safe flora. Actively Maintain that Biofilm Balance, in a flowing state, that will be constantly challenged to shift back through diet, lifestyle, age, health condition, medications and many other risk factors involved in our daily lives. Actively Maintain an oral environment that is as close to what nature intended to be “normal” for the oral cavity by stimulating, enriching, enhancing and inducing salivary flow and quality, multiple times during the day. Protect and cause No Harm to oral tissues and human cells. Possess no known or potential harmful effects on any part of the Whole Human Body or the external ecosystem environment that we live in. Act as a Prebiotic conditioning system in the mouth and guts when ingested (as ALL DENTAL and ORAL Products will be ingested in some quantity or another- even if spat out). So far all past inventions and commercial dental/oral care products focus on 1 or a few ingredients to act as active against a single problem and act with a very limited view of the overall complexity of the situation. We are dealing with a multifactor ecosystem dis-ease, forever changing and flowing, that cannot be dealt to with one ingredient, product or magic bullet. A Wholistic method of thinking and application is needed to specifically design a simple, appropriate and safe systematic solution to offer people globally.
