The Blessing of Jabez “And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren. And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it might not grieve me! And God granted him his request.” (I Chronicles 4:9, 10) Why did God grant this man his request? He honored God! If we want the blessings of God that have been obtained for us by Jesus Christ, we must be found obedient vessels of honor. How well we all know when someone dishonors or betrays their country. But do we know when we dishonor God? “In a great house there are some vessels of dishonor and honor. If anyone will therefore purge their self of these things, they shall be a vessel of honor, set apart and useful for the Lord’s use, and prepared for every good work. Flee every lust, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who serve the Lord with a pure heart.” “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if you obey my commands, and a curse if you will not obey, but you turn aside from following the Lord, and go and serve other gods. Therefore choose life, so that both you and your seed can live in the blessings instead of the curse.” We have to choose who we will serve each day we live. God has called many of us, but very few will be blessed, because we choose to turn our hearts away from the Lord and become vessels of dishonor. God wants us all to choose his life and blessing. But without obedience to his Word and Holy Spirit we will never obtain the blessings of God. King Balak hired a prophet named Balaam to curse the children of Israel. But on his journey he was faced with an angel that was ready to kill him. When he got done repenting and went on to Balak and told him that he could only say what God would speak to him. Balaam said, “I have received a commandment to bless: and God has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.” Do you know that the devil cannot reverse the blessings that God has promised us? God says, if you will obey me and fear me, for I am your God, then I will command my blessing upon you. God gives you and me the promise of his blessings if we will honor him.. “Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the first fruits of all your increase. Then your life will be filled with plenty and overflowing.” Abundance in Blessing! “Even from the days of our fathers you are gone astray from God’s ways, and have not kept them. Return unto me and I will return unto you says the Lord. But you say in what way or how do we return? God then asks us, will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, how have we robbed you? God says, You have robbed me in tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse for you have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring me all your tithes into my house, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now, says the Lord, if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that you will not have room enough to receive. Then I will rebuke the devourer, and he will not destroy. And all nations shall call you blessed.” There is a blessing if we honor God first in our finances and take care of his work first. We choose the curse when we will not give as God has commanded. “Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. Like the dew that descends. For there is where the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.” “I beseech you that you walk worthy of the high calling that is in Christ Jesus, wherein that you have been called to inherit a blessing. That you walk in lowliness, with meekness, and with all longsuffering, forgiving one another as Christ has first forgiven you, doing all that you can to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” “Let this bond of peace be what rules in your heart. For you are the children of the promise that God made with Abraham. And in thy seed shall the kindred’s of the earth be blessed. Honor God’s Spirit and he will bless you. Unto you, God having raised up his Son from the dead, sent him to Bless you, by turning you away from your curses. God gave his Son to bless us. But we must choose Christ to be blessed. Many have chosen Jesus, but they will not obey him. They will never inherit his promises. God will honor you if you will seek to honor his Son Jesus in your life. “Finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion on one another, love as brethren, be forgiving, nor rendering railing for railing, but speak a blessing; knowing that you are called, that you should inherit a blessing.” The power of life and death are found in our tongue. Our tongue is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless God even the Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in his likeness and image. If we will yield our tongue to the Holy Spirit, he will teach us to speak a blessing. Out of the same mouth should not proceed blessing and cursing. Does a fountain send forth bitter and sweet water from the same place? “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, peaceable, full of mercy, then peaceable, gentle, and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness that brings the blessing of God is sown by them that make peace with God and their fellow man by speaking a blessing.” “May God Bless you, and keep you, may he make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” The secret to God’s Blessings is that he sent his Son Jesus Christ to bless you, and if you will honor him you can have his blessings and be a blessing to others. I therefore speak this blessing upon ever one that reads this tract.
