The Bling Ring. I enjoyed this film from Sofia Coppola. It had its humor but really was more of an 3rd person narrative of some very screwed up kids. A big complaint I saw from Rotten Tomatoes was that it didnt delve enough into the characters and didnt dig deep enough as to WHY these kids did what they did. I guess you can say it played out more like a newspaper article than a movie. But, yknow what? Thats exactly what it is. A true story gotten from a newspaper article. It shouldnt have been what made the kids tick. Quite honestly, I feel like that wouldve made a lesser movie. There are time where, yes, it needs to be explained why certain characters do certain things (i.e. Superman saves people because his parents brought him up to do so). But in a film like this, the kids just are. They are no more and no less of who they are portrayed to be because they, themselves, are no more and no less what they projected to themselves towards society. They live in a world of MTV and Fashion and have no concern of anything. Whats more frightening is that these kids really do represent a vast majority of youth today that watch to much television, value looks and fashion, and can care less of their fellow humans. Not a great film, but very, very good, and a thinker that exposes a generation that doesnt think...
