The Bloody Acre Childwall, Liverpool, England (Last one from my hometown!) There is a little patch of land in Childwall, Liverpool, called the Bloody Acre. Its location is opposite Score Lane, where people walk their dogs every day. Some people believe it got its name because of the colour of the soil, others think that people were massacred there. Its alleged that if you stand in the centre of this piece of land in the autumn time...at about 9 or 10pm, you can hear the sounds of men shouting, sticks banging together and muskets cracking! One evening in June 1961, two policemen on the Childwall beat were led to the cemetery of a local church by a group of children who had seen men and women in black hoods and dark green robes, digging up a coffin. The police, thinking the kids were having them on, reluctantly investigated, but sure enough a grave had been disturbed. One of the policemen then spotted a bearded man in a long white robe standing across the road by the Childwall Abbey Hotel, staring towards the church gates. The police went to talk to the man, and saw he was standing there in his bare feet, but before they reached him, he vanished before their eyes. I should mention that this incident was witnessed by two policemen, five children, and two passers by! So there is no question that it did happen. Even more eerie, when the policemen returned to the church yard and shone a torch into the disturbed grave, they saw the coffin, minus its lid, and within it lay the very same bearded man (in his white burial shroud) who had just performed the vanishing trick outside the Childwall Abbey Hotel....?! That was quite enough for the two police officers for one shift. They bolted and didnt look back.
