The Blythe Hotel, the first built in the town was burned, the Military Academy torn down and carried to Eastport to make barracks for Rosecrans soldiers and many other deeds of vandalism. The railroad was in the hands of first one side and then the other and trains only run to transport troops or materials of warfare. Perhaps no part of the South suffered more than Tishomingo County as it was on the borderland. From being one of the wealthiest counties in the state it was reduced to one of the poorest.
