The Board of Curry County Commission will hold a Special Bond Election Tuesday, August 6, 2013. The question on the ballot reads as follows: “Shall Curry County issue up to $9,880,000 in general obligation bonds payable from general (ad valorem) taxes, to acquire land for, construct, equip, furnish and otherwise improve a new County Jail to be located outside of Downtown Clovis?” The bond will not require an increase in the current property tax rate and calls for an existing bond to be extended to pay for the new medium and maximum security detention facility outside of Downtown Clovis, east of the City Landfill. In order to minimize the cost to taxpayers, Curry County has consolidated the polling places; ten (10) in Clovis and three (3) in County which are located in Grady, Melrose and Texico. For precincts 5, 28, 30 and 36 voting will take place at the OLD Lockwood Elementary School; precincts 18 and 19 will vote at Mesa Elementary School and due to road construction will need to access Mesa Elementary School off of Wilhite. Other locations are: Grady Senior Citizens Center – Precincts 1 and 34 Melrose City Hall – Precincts 4 and 16 Texico Community Building – Precincts 2 and 33 Barry Elementary School – Precincts 3, 10 and 15 Lincoln Jackson Family Center – Precincts 6, 25, 29 and 31 Clovis HS Freshman Campus – Precincts 7, 8 and 9 Sandia Elementary School - Precincts 11 and 12 Highland Elementary School – Precincts 13 and 14 Yucca Middle School – Precincts 23, 24, 26, 27 and 32 Marshall Middle School – Precincts 20, 21 and 22 Colonial Clubhouse – Precincts 17, 35 and 37 If you have polling place questions, please call the County Clerk at 575-763-5591.
