The Bronze Serpent Nachash[נחש] Numbers 21:8-10 8 Then the LORD said to Moses,“ Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived. The Hebrew word for look in this passage is not the normal word for look. The person bitten must look with positive expectation of being healed. Its a picture if the cross. What is Gods answer today for our needs for healing and provision? Look to the cross. This is the Hebrew word and spelling for serpent: nachash [נחש] nun-chet-shin Remember Hebrew reads from right to left and is a form of picture writing, like Chinese. The word pictures of each letter tell us a story, something youd never find in the definition and gives a window in Gods perspective. [נ] Nun is a picture of fish, also symbolic of the believer and the church. Now you know why it was used as the symbol for Christian in the early church. [ח] Het or chet (the ch is pronounced like a guttural k) mean fence. Something can be fenced in or fenced out. [ש]Shin means Shaddai as in El Shaddai-Almighty God. Tell me: What does the devil want to do most of all??? TO KEEP THE BELIEVER FENCED OFF FROM ALMIGHTY GOD! Now this is the Hebrew word for bronze: nachochet [נחשת] The letters, from right to left, are nun-het-shin-tav. The first three letters you already know. The last letter on the far left is [ת] Tav. It means cross. Whenever you see bronze mentioned in scripture it speaks of judgment The letters for the word bronze in Hebrew literally spell out : The serpent is judged at the cross! Hence, the bronze serpent on the pole. HALLELUIA! Today, because of our precious Jesus and His selfless sacrifice on the cross, we can look expectantly for healing and every provision to His finished work. The cross has replaced the bronze serpent.
