The California and Gold Standard claims were discovered as - TopicsExpress

The California and Gold Standard claims were discovered as separate properties along the same vein system in 1897. E.P. Pond (Yes this is the same Pond from the WINTER AND POND PHOTOS everyone seems to know.) and J. Davies discovered the California prospect and drove the Falls Tunnel in 1898. J. McWilliams, George Stucky, Charles Brown, D. Fraser, and Pete Early discovered the Gold Standard property and drove the Contact Tunnel by 1898. The properties were consolidated under Pond and Davies ownership in 1898, and the Greenstone Tunnel on the Upper Gold standard workings started. The Contact Tunnel was driven below the falls on the California prospect in 1900, and by 1902, the Cabin tunnel was completed. Assessment work was performed until 1905. After that time, no known work was done until 1935, when the Knob discoveries were made at the southern end of the property. Whelan Mining and Exploration restaked the area in 1980 and, after they dropped the property, Jim Wilson restaked the area in 1986. My current information shows no current owner. There are six adits on the prospect. The California Prospect has the 140 foot Cabin Tunnel that has almost vanished, 80 falls tunnel almost caved in, and the 115 foot California Tunnel is solid as a rock!. On the Gold Standard prospect, the 85 foot Greenstone tunnel is chest deep water and the 120 foot Contact tunnel has almost been filled in by a nearby stream. There are 2 old cabin ruins, with pieces of stove rotting away in the moss. Several deep trenches with exposed quartz, and 1 caved adit, and 1 caved inclined shaft north of the Gold Standard workings.
