The Cape Cod Canal opened in July 1914 almost 0ne hundred years ago. In 2014, many celebrations are planned to recognize the canal’s significance. One being the impact fishing has afforded to generations of fisherman from around New England and beyond. A bronze Fisherman statue, standing on a boulder, is being created and will be just yards away from the Great Cape Cod Canal. The statue is a tribute to the amazing fishing experience that has been passed along to generations. Who would have known that a man made waterway would turn out to be one of the greatest places to fish for the Mighty Striped Bass. The Fisherman is being sculpted by David Lewis of Osterville on Cape Cod. David is well known for his sculpture of President John F. Kennedy at the JFK museum in Hyannis, among others. The Fisherman statue is in clay form and is just about ready to be sent out to begin the bronzing process. A beautiful brick walkway with lighting and benches will surround this magnificent work of art standing at almost eleven feet when complete. To help pay for "The Fisherman” statue, the surrounding walkway will have engraved bricks offered for sale. The engraved bricks are a wonderful way to acknowledge those who live the passion or have instilled it in others, leaving a treasure chest of memories and great times.
