The Celtic festival of Samhain was a time when, it was believed, - TopicsExpress

The Celtic festival of Samhain was a time when, it was believed, the barrier between the spirit world and our world became permeable. The dead could walk again. Faeries and sprites could play tricks, and evil spirits might even try to capture your soul. Places were set at dinner tables for deceased relatives, and, if people had to go outside, they would often disguise themselves to hide their true identity from the faeries and spirits. In our (slightly) more rational times, Samhain has become Halloween and people simply dress up for parties or children go in quest of sweets. It doesnt feel the same, somehow.
