[The Champions Den!] - Manchester Uniteds pursuit of Cesc Fabregas last summer was nothing if not persistent. Whilst much of the football world thought it impossible that the Spanish international would end up at Old Trafford, David Moyes and Edward Woodward continued regardless. They didnt get their man and were faced with widespread criticism and Fabregas went on to have a good start of the season with Barcelona, becoming more central to the team under new manager Tata Martino. The upward curve didnt continue for Fabregas and as Barcelona faltered he took much of the blame. A lot of that was unfair, hes often been played out of position and other players have seen their level drop around him, yet Fabregas seemed to get the most grief from fans of his hometown club. Toward the end of April fans of the club voted by over 80% to sell Fabregas to Manchester United for €30m, so when another Catalan newspaper, Sport, ran a poll on Sunday asking if he should be sent to Old Trafford for €55m... the answer was predictable. 84% said that, yes, they would like the club to sell for that price. The question was prompted by reports in England on Sunday that Manchester United were considering such a bid. Both Sport and Mundo Deportivo had the claim as their top story at some point today. Its unlikely Manchester United would have to go to that amount to sign Fabregas this summer. Whilst the player is happy to stay in Barcelona, the club would find it difficult to turn down a big bid for him and, with his contract ending in June 2016, his agents will be looking for a renewal, and subsequent pay rise, soon.
