The Charlie Hebdo incident need be put in its proper - TopicsExpress

The Charlie Hebdo incident need be put in its proper perspective...it is not about the mega-scary huntingtonesque clash of civilization thesis. IGP KHALID acts just like a wannabe politician or better still, an end of the road career cop trying to curry favor for a hefty golden hand shake upon retirement. One thing is sure, he seems to have been educated beyond his limited intelligence and world view, by making a disgraceful statement, using the recent attack on the French Charlie Hebdo publication to justify the nations antiquated and controversial Sedition Act 1948. In this, the murderous attack by some Muslims on the Paris satire publication must be kept in perspective. The issue need only be confined to the two groups involved i.e. Charlie Hebdo the publisher, and the Muslims who attacked it, just because they dont believe in the rights to free speech. The incident is scarcely any gigantic civilizational plot. The coverage by western news organisations, especially cable TV, is not only mercenary but childish and disgraceful. From being an attack on the satire magazine, the story has somehow metamorphosed into one of attacks on Jews in France; just because a kosher supermarket was involved. Christianne Amanpour, the Iranian Christian with CNN, is suddenly talking about a two-state solution in Israel/Palestine, as part of the coverage on the attack on Charlie Hebdo. This is really stretching the story far from what it really is. And, as normal with most politicians, they are trying to milk every bits of political capital out of the attack. The French Hollander Government should not have got into the act. The right approach would have been to allow the police to handle the case. In the US, for example, there have been many such random terror killings. Did world leaders gather in the US after any such spectacular blood lettings, except for 9/11; holding hands in solidarity and kissing each other on the cheeks? France is a strong nation. The media coverage on the Paris terror incident does a disservice to the country; which is a great nation considering its institutions, and the nature of the republic. Muslims in France are French just like the Jews, Christians, IndoChinese, Pondicherrians (yes, from Pondicherry, India), alliance francais Berber arabs from north Africa, and others. All will continue to have a place in France under rule of law. In view of the Charlie Hebdo incident, what may be missing in France is dialogue between the Government and the people, and among its cosmopolitan population.
