The Chat Room: Hmmmm.... 1. Woman Charged over daughter not attending school : No parents should not be charged if their child does not go to school Most parents I know escort their kids to school up to around the age of 10 or 11 or highschool as a matter of course & safety. If you happen to have a rebellious child ... how can you be held responsible if you make every effort : even to point of delivering that child to school can you be held responsible if that child leaves the school grounds after you have deposited them there : is the onis not on the teachers to police children in the grounds from 8.30am - to end of school day... thankfully to my knowledge I did not have kids who wagged school, in fact one of my sons was awarded a certificate for the highest days of attendence at the school in year 7 or 8 ... but there are some parents who struggle with totally rebellious kids & they should not be held accountable for circumstances beyond their control - mind you I do know one of my sons (as far as I know only one) who took a few unauthorised days off... Im not blind ! 2. Parenting:... I dont think Ive done too bad , I think I have 5 reasonably well adjusted kids NOW, my method was: An infant when they become mobile needs on the odd occasion a slap on the wrist if they venture near elements which will cause them harm e.g: power points, fires, stoves etc... the slap on the wrist helps them identify that thing will cause pain but never using an extension to your hand on theirs eg Wooden Spoon etc.... this is carried through to toddler age ... but I think around 3 they are aware of what is around them & we need to teach them how to explore safely ... & allow them input into the things they want to explore & do & rather than yell at them if they make a mess ... get them to HELP YOU clean it up... explanation is always necessary when you say NO ! I never said NO simply because I could ... as a PS : I seriously think Parenting is too over analysed now days ... I also used the tactic of asking the kids ...If you were the parent & your kid did that... what would you give as punishment? I also strongly advocate the reward system with kids because if you really think about it we are always being rewarded ... Wages/Salary reward for work done, Loyalty Rewards, Discount rewards etc etc ... all through life we are rewarded for whatever we do that is deemed right & good 3. Whats you Morning Routine? ... Open eyes ... get up , go loo, feed dog, make coffee while dog is eating, take dog out for his morning crap n wee ... do stuff to get ready for the day ... whatever is needed to be done ! Work ....! Other one not memorable enough ! cause I forget ! but Yes I am a maturish women (y)
