The Christmas Season will be upon us in the blink of an eye. Here in Morton it is a tradition that the second weekend in Morton kicks off the holiday shopping season. In the past this was known as “Red Bow Weekend”. Shops that were never open on Sunday stayed open late on Friday night and in the afternoon on Sunday. Now days the community wide celebration is “Holidazzle” a combination of special sales, community Christmas tree lighting, a chili supper, and a candle light stroll down Main St. On Friday Nov. 8th, is a chili supper at the Morton Community United Church of Christ located at 300 N. Main St. from 4:00 to 7:30pm. Santa will be at Morton Community Bank Downtown from 5 to 6:30pm. Bring the kids and a camera to take your own holiday pictures. It is a great chance to bring the whole family down for supper and then walk to Jefferson and First St. for the tree lighting. The Morton Tourism Association will be on site offering hot pretzels and cocoa for sale. Across the street is a kid’s bouncy house assortment to keep the young ones busy until the tree lighting. The Morton Community Foundation’s “Tree of Dreams” next to their offices at 200 E. Jefferson has now become part of the holiday traditions of our Village .
