The City of Saskatoon, the Ministry of the Economy and the Office of The Treaty Commissioner are very pleased to be partnering to bring back to Saskatoon the Building New Relationships: First Nations and Newcomers Program Date: Tuesday February 10 and Wednesday February 11, 2015 Time: 9:00am to 3:30 pm Cost: Free Cultural Advisor/Facilitator: Lyndon Linklater Location: Cosmo Civic Centre Theatre, 3130 Laurier Drive, For those driving there is free parking and for those taking the bus there is a bus mall across the street Who should attend: Anyone who works directly or indirectly with newcomers/immigrants/international students in Saskatoon *** Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis *** The Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC) has developed a two-day train the trainer program to build relationships with First Nations people and learn about their history and their traditional culture. The Building New Relationships Program: First Nations and Newcomers training has been designed, as the name implies, to assist those working with newcomers to become more informed about First Nations people and the treaties that form the foundation of the Canadian Constitution. In this way, they can then pass this information on to the newcomers they work with every day in programs such as language classes, employment training programs, literacy classes and health programs etc. Facilitator and Cultural Advisor: Lyndon J Linklater was appointed to the OTC Speakers Bureau in 2000. Since that time, he has presented to over 30,000 people delivering awareness and understanding about Treaties and First Nation awareness to Saskatchewan people.He is a powerful story teller that utilizes First Nation teachings that involve knowledge of ceremonies and mixes humor to deliver a poignant message.
