The Commonwealth Games 2014. 3rd August 2014. The queen was in her element as the Red Arrows crossed the sky Red, blue and white their smoke belched out, their excuse was just a lie We cannot spray just blue and white, it’s not been done before We cannot change our colours and will discuss this point no more! We had our Home Games here in Glasgow without our anthem played The only time it’s happened another Westminster charade They said their won’t be politics at the city’s Friendly Games, Up to their tricks as usual, they should hang their heads in shame. Union Flags, handed out, as folk were ushered to their seats But right away, those eagle eyed, grabbed their phones to tweet Union flags were given out but they were not competing Again, the rules were flouted, could it be BT were cheating? But The Friendly Games in Glasgow, brought praise worldwide Glasgow’s best behaviour won filling everyone with pride Hailed by every visitor, from the UK and beyond We flourished like we’ve never done, we don’t need a magic wand. We clanged the bell that never rang and showed the tree that never grew, They saw the fish that couldnae swim and the bird that never flew They saw The Duke upon a horse and on his head a golden cone The poor wee bloke’s just standing there but they can’t leave him alone. They loved us cos we made them laugh and joined us all in song We hope you’ve all enjoyed yourselves and felt that you belonged. We’re wee but we’re not stupid, we’re daft in the right way So haste ye back tae Glesga, you’re welcome any day. thanks Paul Colvin
