The Commonwealth Games Federation will meet in 2016 to decide whether Rugby League Nines will be elevated from its current Category 3 status and included as a medal sport in the 2022 Commonwealth Games which will be played in either Canada or South Africa. Meanwhile Rugby League has confirmed it will again play a pre-event tournament leading into the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, and continue to help support development of the code across the 71 Commonwealth Member nations.
