The Croods. a movie review. I treated my two daughters Hannah 8 and Rania 3 to the movie – The Croods. We loved it. It was a simple funny story with great and colourful animation. It’s about a cave family, father, mother, grandmother, daughther, son and a baby. The story evolves around a curious, adventurous teenage daughter named Eep who hated strict rules and the way of life imposed by her father Grug. However, the rules and way of life were the reason that keeps them alive. But things changed and their cave vanished forever. Yes, the animation was beautiful but most of all I love the message put forth in simple examples that even a 5 year old can understand (well, my 3 yo would simple enjoy the funny funny things and laughed. Boy, she really laughed!) The message is simple. Its about trying new things, be adventure, be curious, have ideas, be brave, chase after your dream as opposed to be afraid about everything new, refrain from seeking adventure, do not ever dream cause sometimes they bring you trouble. I love the part where Eep said about their way of life, living safely in a cave, only went out to find food and never do anything new or venture into outside world. She said,”That wasn’t LIVING, that was just, just NOT DYING!”. That part really struck me. We go out to work, earn money, come home and then repeat cycle. That routine keeps us alive, not dying, but are we living? They live in the same cave, day in day out, doing the routine … and makes me think, gosh, that is what most of us are still doing. It brings to a good question – Are you LIVING or are you just NOT DYING?
