The Cynic writes: The Indian contribution to WW I as per official records: 47,746 Indians listed as dead or missing, 65,126 more as wounded. India provided Britain, with not just men, but material and money as well. 1,440,437 men were recruited, 1,381,050 were sent for service overseas. India bore the entire cost of these troops, being used for imperial rather than national purposes. In 1917, India also made an outright gift of £100 million towards the cost of the war. #WorldWar1 #Indianarmy
