The D2 Grid Link Alliance is ready for action. We are hoping to make as many submissions to EirGrid as possible before the 26th November in an attempt to protect our health, homes, livelihood and countryside from these 400kV pylons and cables. Find attached an information sheet on how to make a submission to EirGrid and some reasons to object. Please feel free to amend or add your own reasons and opinions. It includes where to post or email your submission and examples of what to write so that your submission is relevant. Some people might not be fully aware of exactly what EirGrid are proposing or why you might want to object to this, so please read some of these facts and look at the attachments to this email. · Eirgrid are proposing to put 400kV pylons (see photo attached) along four possible corridors. The D2 corridor is from Baltinglass to New Ross eirgridprojects/projects/gridlink/overview/ Areas affected include: Baltinglass, Mountneill , Mountkelly, Knocklishen, Barnhill, Coolmanagh, Duffery, Ballyduff, Corragh, Lumcloon , Coolkenna , Boley, Crone, Ballard, Ballyknocker, Carnew, Croneyhorn, Umrygar , Tombreane, Donishall, Bolinrush, Ballycadden, Ballyroebuck, Ballaman, Tombrack, Ballycarney, BallywilliamRoe, Cloinjordan ,Monbeg, Ballynaminnan, Greenan, Glengass, Rathnure, Coolnahorna, Ballygalvent, Ballywilliam, New Ross. · They are using an old fashioned technology. There are other options that have less of an environmental and health effects. · Some health facts you should be aware of: · 70% greater chance of childhood Leukaemia within 200 metres of pylon, 20% greater chance if living within 600metres (Professor Draper, Oxford University). The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies Extra High Voltage Overhead Transmission Lines as possible carcinogen for childhood Leukemia. · People who live less than 50 metres from pylon are 24% more likely to die from dementia than people who live 600 metres away. Studies also show that people who live more than 10 years in close proximity are 78% most likely to die from a form of dementia (Statistics calculated using census data and statistics of cause of death for 4.7 million Swiss people 2000 to 2005 Institute of Social and Preventative Medicine Switzerland). · Electric fields from pylon cables concentrate car and industrial fumes into clusters of dangerous gases which increase the risk of lung Cancer, asthma and respiratory diseases (Professor Denis Hemshaw, Bristol University). · Strong links to cause Alzheimers, Depression, Miscarriages, brain tumours etc. · Since 2000, there has been 107 scientific papers published investigating the link between Electromagnetic fields to various forms of cancer, 69 of these confirmed this link, 30 were inconclusive and 8 showed no link. · Even Eirgrid will not confirm that there will be no health implications with these pylons · Your house will drop in value ( statistics have shown a drop of up to 35%) · They generate a lot of noise youtube/watch?v=PnEaq4BeFH0 · They are a source of visual pollution and will impact greatly on tourism. · They are a nuisance for farm machinery to navigate around, impacts the health of animals, land becomes less valuable and individual farmers cannot negotiate their terms with EirGrid. All the power will be in EirGrids court. · People will avoid B&B’s, crèches, schools etc within close proximity . Some people feel safe because they are outside the 1km corridor, but this corridor can shift a few kilometres either side if they want to avoid something else along the route. Please print or forward to all neighbours and contacts to make them aware. We need to stop EirGrid in their tracks with as many submissions as possible. EVERY SUBMISSION COUNTS. You will never regret taking a few minutes to write an email or letter but you will have a lifetime of regret if the D2 corridor is chosen and you did nothing. Kind regards D2 Grid Link Alliance
