The Dazz Band - Joystick (1983) Tracklist 01. To The Roof (4/5) (Electro-Funk at its slickest) 02. Joystick (4½) (A good example on how Funk was trying to survive using electronics & drum machines, this jam worked for it) 03. Swoop (Im Yours) (4½) (Nasty Nasty jammm! now they did the biz with this one) 04. Until You (3/5) (Decent slow jam but nothing too special) 05. Rock With Me (2½) (started off as an Electro-Doo-Wop thang then molded into the regular sound of the 80s) New Wave/Pop) 06. Straight Out Of School (3/5) (Not too impressive production, this one didnt work out) 07. Now That I Have You (3/5) (Decent slow jam but not enough soul put into it) 08. Laughin At You (3/5) (Good song with a smooth R&B synth touch) 09. T. Mata (Instrumental) (4/5) (Nasty instrumental that is too damn short SMH whyyyy) Conclusion: Decent album from Ohios Dazz Band, well I have heard some good shit from this band & this is my first full album I listened too, they actually had a sweet horn section back in the late 70s as Kinsman Dazz. But here its all electronics & drum machines (which means this cant be there best offering) but its not terrible but nothing essential either, the album do have some good jams (Joystick & Swoop) those were the hits that reached the charts but those tunes alone did not make them a household name in the Funk industry (they were never as big as other Ohio bands like Slave or Ohio Players) but they had a good sound on their early stuff but this one is for of course the die-hards or 80s freaks lol who got a passion for electronic music, this one is worthy of an download (the legal way lol) but if u looking for hardcore Funk do not start here, try to locate their late 70s albums as Kinsman Dazz. Album Score: 3/5 Album Highlights: Joystick, Swoop, T. Mata
