The Deeper Discovery of DESIRE By C.J. Jackson “If anyone is THIRSTY, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:38-39) C.S. Lewis said: “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” The thing is I witness every day soul after soul seek to satisfy the longing that pricks at the very depth of our existence by attempting to quench it with earthly consumption. When the voice of God has a direct contrast of who we are when it reads: “Be in the world but not of this world.” It appears in all pockets of humanity there is an instability in what can fulfill the appetites of the soul towards true satisfaction. More and more there is evidence where we are convoluted in our pursuit of true pleasure. One of my spiritual mentors shared with me years ago there is a connection in the meeting of true DESIRE with true DUTY. In essence its two sides of the side coin! I have come to the place on my journey in the Lord that Holiness will always lead to Happiness! Today though we are deceived that the seeking of a surface pleasure that craves to be stimulated is our true satisfaction. Not realizing that everywhere we find surface stimulation we have missed a deeper DESIRE. Our fundamental challenge is not one of doing more to be satisfied, but in deciding more deeply what satisfies. Here’s a question for you: WHAT IS YOUR DEEPEST DESIRE? Jesus said in John 7:38-39 “If anyone is THIRSTY, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” This thirst that Jesus was highlighting was a thirst for HIMSELF! Notice He said “if you’re thirsty come to Him”. In other words, others may be inclined to find that there are other ways for thirsty people to be satisfied from other sources, but if you are really thirsty discover Jesus! CJ
