The Department of Education uses an expanded definition of homelessness, including children whose families are doubled up or living in motels. Most homeless children are living doubled up--an arrangement generally considered better than an emergency shelter or the street, but still very stressful and destabilizing for families. This is why we are all dedicated to creating safe and affordable housing.
