The Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership at the University of Toledo announces the new Foundations of Peace Education Graduate Certificate Program. The foundations of peace education focuses on understanding and applying the theoretical frameworks and learning strategies that underlie, and can be employed in, the teaching and learning of the concepts, skills, and values of peace. Who will benefit? The certificate program is designed for educational professionals working in a variety of educational environments, ranging from P-12 schools, community colleges, universities, and non-governmental organizations. This certificate will provide students with the concepts, skills, and values to infuse peace education throughout the curriculum, thereby providing them with greater opportunities to be hired in a variety of educational settings. Program Requirements The program requires completion of four (12 semester hours) of graduate courses. All courses are offered online (distance learning). Twelve credit hours earned by a non-degree seeking graduate certificate course credit may be applied toward the Masters programs in Educational Psychology (FEEP) or Educational Theory and Social Foundations (ETSF, FOED, FEPE, FEES) or the Doctoral degree in Educational Foundations; however, an admission application to these programs must be field separately. Program of Study Complete 12 semester credit hours of required course work. TSOC 5600/7600 Foundations of Peace Pedagogy (3 semester credit hours) (required) The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic concepts, theories, and approaches to peace education. The course explores the theories of peace education, including pedagogical approaches to peace-learning.
