The Department of Soil, Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking applicants that wish to pursue a PhD in Atmospheric Science starting spring 2015. The Graduate Research Assistantship is supported by the National Science Foundation EPSCoR Track I award to the state of Missouri. The assistantship is a half-time appointment and includes health insurance and a tuition waiver. The successful applicant will be heavily involved in statistically downscaling climate model output with a focus on projections of future temperature, precipitation, and soil moisture in Missouri and surrounding areas. Applicants must possess (or expect to possess by spring 2015) a masters degree in atmospheric science, geographical science, earth science, or a related field. Experience with statistics, computer programming, and GIS software is essential. Strong skills in oral and written communication are also required. Successful applicants will be expected to work both collaboratively and independently to reach the project goals. The position will remain open until filled but preference will be given to applicants who apply by October 26 2014 and are interested in starting in the spring 2015.
