The Diversey Theater on Clark Street at Diversey was opened in 1925 and operated by Balaban & Katz. The huge Spanish Baroque movie house was renamed The Century at the time of the Century of Progress Worlds Fair in 1933-1934. In the early 70s I lived a block away at Surf & Cambridge. In 1973 the interior of The Century was gutted (see 3rd shot), then rebuilt as a multi-level shopping mall. In 2000 the uppermost levels in the struggling mall became a 7-screen art house (the Landmark Chain.) The façade looks much as it did in the old days.
