The Doorbell Divas to American Gentlemen free training group starts today but I didnt want to leave anyone out of Train Your Dog Month so while we are working on manners when guests come in here is a video on how to teach your dog better manners when THEY go through the door! If you have a fast dog or slow reflexes you can work with a leash on, you arent HOLDING them back with the leash, its only on so if they manage to slip out the door you shut the door behind them----> not much fun to escape out the door when youre stuck on 3ft of leash & noone to play with!! Count to 10, then open the door to let them back in for Take II Without saying a word open the door a crack (for FAST dogs fake-open it or just jiggle the handle) when your dog moves towards the door close it BEFORE they get there we are NOT trying to shut noses & toes-es in the door! !! Repeat until that brief second that doesnt TRY to go through the door then use your clicker to click the hesitation or your Marker Word Yessss to mark the behavior then give your Release Word as you open the door wide. Do this for ALL doors EVERY TIME to get great door manners. Not sure what a Release Word is? Or other questions on how to execute? Feel free to leave a comment!
