The Drew University Dance minor was such a huge part of my education at Drew. I would not have come to Drew if I could not have minored in dance and if this program had been taken away during my time, I very well may have transferred. Dance has always been one of my favorite things to do and best ways I found to express myself creatively. The competitive and negative atmosphere that often surrounds dance however, was never something I enjoyed to be a part of. While the dance program at Drew challenged and pushed me, I loved that it was intimate and very communal and made for a lot of individual attention for the students and their work. Cheryl made me a better dancer and choreographer and also taught me how to view and analyze dance in a different way. The program exposed me to so many different types of movement and ways to choreograph and taught me how to work collaboratively in a creative environment in a way I never had before. I also learned so much about great choreographers of the past and gave me so much more knowledge about the history of my art. I currently work with kids of all ages teaching dance and choreographing for various performances and productions. I still choreograph and perform and for me it is like being home. I would not be doing this without the Drew University Dance Minor and I certainly would not be the dancer or choreographer I am today without it.
