The EDM scene (for a lack of better words) is in a weird paradox - TopicsExpress

The EDM scene (for a lack of better words) is in a weird paradox right now. Electronic music was founded on love and compassion as a sort of anti-movement back in the early 80s. Electronic Dance Music, in its essence, is literally about love and joy. You dance to it. The paradox now is that the self-proclaimed electronic music supporters, the ones who regard themselves as guardians of Electronic Music against commercialization and selling out are so full of hate and spite that it directly goes against the point of what theyre trying to reach, and what electronic music is all about. Its a bold statement, but were tempted to say that most of the new, recent followers of electronic music who loves the music for what it is, show up at shows to dance and have a good time, and doesnt pass judgment every other second are more in the spirit of what electronic music is about than the ones who call themselves the experts and still spend most of their days negatively commenting and deliberately hurting artists and genres. Its a life lesson that most should have learned already by now, but when you want to change something in this world, do it with love. Words heal or hurt depending on how they are used, and the more you trash-talk artists for doing something wrong, the more afraid they are going to be to experiment as they tend to stick to what works / formula-music in order to stay safe. Instead, show all the love and support you can for your artists, no matter what they do or how they sound - its going to encourage them to be playful and experimental and try out tons of things. Why? Because they know that whatever they do, it will be received with love and excitement. Which is exactly how this scene evolved in the first place. If people in the early days of rave could show unlimited amounts of excitement and encouragement for home-made records consisting purely of monotone drum machines and sampled riffs, then were fairly certain you can too. That means that if you dislike a track, all you express by letting the artist know how shit it is is your own lack of capacity to love and embrace people and their differences. This is a plea that you do not forget the corner stones of this movement, and that you do not need to pretend to be a part of it if you dont want to fully embrace what its about; Love. - Megaton Records
