The Eagles are playing Caney this Saturday. Any other old timers remember the Caney football game 40 years ago in 1974? Brad Wright was quarterback, Mark Hughes was fullback, Abner Reece was running back. The best FB game I ever played in as an Eagle. I was a sophomore 2nd or 3rd string linebacker, but I also played on special teams, or the meat squad as we called it. Of course that was back when instead of getting a penalty for a helmet to helmet hit, you got a star shaped sticker to put on your helmet when you laid somebody out. Lol. It was a great game and we won but the next week we played somebody at Haskell Stadium in Lawrence and lost, mainly because we were so beat up from the Caney game. Also remember TJ Bivins buying the entire team a steak dinner on the way home from Caney. Wew, had to shake a little dust off that old memory!
