The Education Resource Center (ERC) re-opens this Friday, August 15th, 2014 The ERC office and curriculum lending library will be open on Fridays 10am-4pm, throughout the 2014-2015 school year. (Closed June/July for summer break) Our volunteers are available to answer questions, and support and encourage you along your homeschool journey. Visit our library to explore curriculum options, and check-out curriculum that may be useful to your homeschool. Sign up for our Email Blast to receive announcements about educational opportunities (classes, lessons, field trips, etc). Location: The ERC is a ministry of Grace Baptist Chapel 12201 Comanche NE Albuquerque, NM 87111 Education building beside the church, enter through the grey door next to the mailbox Membership: Everyone is welcome to visit the ERC. Memberships cost $15 for one school year, and renew every August. Membership is required to check out books, microscopes, or learning resources from the lending library. (ERC emails are free to everyone). ERC patrons are encouraged to support CAPE-NM. CAPE members receive a $5 discount on ERC Memberships, paying $10 per school year. CAPE works to keep homeschoolers informed of legal and political matters relevant to homeschooling in New Mexico. They also host the annual Homeschool Convention in April. There are many helpful hints for getting started homeschooling, on their website. Find out more at: cape-nm.org/ Curriculum lending library: Please bring your yellow ERC Membership card to check out educational materials from our library. Books may be checked out for 1 full calendar year. Microscopes may be checked out for 6 months. Please return ERC library materials as soon as you are finished with them, so others may have the opportunity to use them. ERC library books are marked with yellow tape on the spine. Email Blast: ERC.GBC@gmail As the Hub for homeschool communication, the ERC seeks to provide emails about educational opportunities for your information only. The ERC and GBC do not necessarily endorse the groups or activities mentioned. Want to share information about a class, program, or activity, that may be of interest to other homeschoolers? Simply send an email to the ERC, worded to the homeschool community, and we will gladly forward it out through our Email Blast. It is better to have text in the body of the email, especially clear contact information, and not just an attachment. Email announcements need to be relevant to education, and respectfully written. Please allow up to 1 week for emails to be sent through the Email Blast, due to the volume of emails we receive daily. Limit 1 email per activity. Duplicates/reminder emails will only be sent a second time if space is available. **To subscribe or unsubscribe to the ERC Email Blast, simply send an email to the ERC with your request. Donations: At this time, the shelves of the ERC Library are FULL. We are unable to accept most donations. If you have items to donate, our volunteers are available to browse your selection during open hours on Fridays, and accept only the items that will update our library. We primarily seek current or 1 previous edition for most curriculum, Apologia textbooks, Teaching Textbooks, unit studies, and new curriculum. Please do not leave donations at the church outside of ERC hours of operation. Additional places to offer your donations include Tidal Wave Bookstore, Rio Rancho Public Library, local homeschool co-ops and groups, and Craigs List. In addition, the ERC hosts 1 or 2 used book sales each year. Testing: The ERC hosts standardized testing, with the Stanford Achievement Test, every May. (Testing is not currently required of homeschoolers in New Mexico). Details and testing information will be advertised through the Email Blast in the Spring. Bees: The ERC is a host site for homeschoolers to participate in the Bible Bee, the National Geographic Bee, and the Scripps Spelling Bee. Details are advertised through the ERC Email Blast.
