The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is excited to announce the launch of a new nonprofit organization aimed at improving the lives of captive elephants around the globe. Co-founded by Scott Blais, Global Sanctuary for Elephants exists to “promote and facilitate the well-being of captive elephants through the development and support of progressive, expansive, natural-habitat sanctuaries.” Their first focus is the creation of Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, a facility that will provide sanctuary to elephants in South America, including Ramba, the last circus elephant in Chile. The Elephant Sanctuary has collaborated with Scott, Active Environments, and Ecopolis over the past two years to help move Ramba into a more appropriate home and support her by providing food, supplements, medical care, fresh running water, and a heated barn. We look forward to future opportunities for collaboration with Global Sanctuary for Elephants, as we work towards our shared goals. Please visit sanctuaryforelephants.org or Global Sanctuary for Elephants for more information.
