The Environment Agency is constantly receiving negative (often unfairly in my opinion) comments so here is some good news. The river Nene yesterday benefitted from a stocking of fingerling barbel from the EA hatchery at Calverton. Approx 250 were stocked in each of three locations in the lower Nene two of which are controlled by Peterborough & Dist Angling Association. One of the stretches benefited from an EA funded habitat improvement scheme which included new flow management to prevent silting of the gravel bed and the creation of a new spawning area. Since then PDAA members who include a number of Barbel Society members have provided catch data as well as supporting in and out of river surveys A good reason for maintaining positive dialogue if ever there was one. The guy in the chesties and camera is Mick Rouse, Angling Times Photographer.
