The Eternal Perspective Romans 4:17c ...and calls things that are not as though they were. Thoughts for Today: In our passage today, Paul writes that God calls things that are not as though they were. Like what? Like you and me. So how does He work? Ecclesiastes 3:15 explains, Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account. In other words, God knows the past, present, and the future -- for Him all exist at the same time. In Romans 8:29-30, Paul explains how this applies to us: For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. So heres how it works: Based upon Gods foreknowledge (knowing the future) He predestined those of us who would come to know Jesus; because we were predestined we were called by Him; as we answer His call He justifies us; and when were declared righteous (justified) we are glorified. Isnt God incredible? Questions to Ponder: God doesnt see me the way I do -- the petty man who gets upset over insults or criticisms. No, God sees me as already GLORIFIED. Gods view is of our whole life -- past, present and future. Think about the implications for a moment. He views us glorified and already in the Kingdom of Heaven. So how should Gods perspective change our lives? Two things for certain: first we should feel an incredible sense of relief and freedom (the work has already been done); and second, a deep love of God. Does knowing Gods point of view change how you feel today? Does it make anything youre worried about seem a little less important?
