The Expression of Love 1 Peter 1:22-23 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: v. 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. The signs and earmarks of Christ living in you and I, and is at work in your heart and life, is how you respond and act towards others. Your actions/lack thereof show whether the Holy Spirit is working in you! If you can only love those who love you, do good to those who do good to you, then the agape(self sacrificial) love of God is not being formed in you. (Galatians 4:19) Christ states that if we are abiding in Him and He in us then we will produce much fruit. that is of the Spirit ie. love, joy, peace, faith....etc (John 15:5). The Spirit of God is in us to alter/change us into the image of Christ. A tree is known by its fruit. The bible tells us to know a tree by its fruit and to test their spirit by the Spirit. What fruit are you bearing today? Works of the flesh or works of the Spirit? (Galatians 5:19-25). We as Christians are called to discern and judge all things by the Spirit. The above scriptures show that we are to have our souls purified by obeying the Truth of the Word by way of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God will place unfeigned love towards our brethren as we exhibit faith on a daily basis in the Cross of Christ. This means that the expression and character of Christ will flow through your life and will cause you to express and respond with a pure heart fervently, not sometimes but constantly. The problem in todays church is that there is too much pretense and a form of godliness but no true transformation of the heart by way of the Spirit. Unfeigned love is a sincere love which is free from pretense and it is an unconditional love towards all. It is the same type of love which was expressed to us by God sending His Son to die on our behalf. The reason why we arent seeing this love expressed in the body of Christ is due to improper faith in the Cross of Christ. Faith has been misguided and misdirected to our own objectives and agendas and away from Christ. Gods Way and Satisfaction was found in His Son Jesus Christ and His atoning death at the Cross. As you and I place our faith in this great Act on a daily basis then the Spirit of God is energized to transform our lives to go beyond pretense to a real love expressed to all on the basis of Calvary. ~Shonette
