The F/V Bad Influence has Bobby Quinn and friends on todays Newport tog trip. We were treated to a beautiful sunset and light northwest winds. Its amazing the difference between fishing on the weekend compared to midweek. A quarter of the boats were out fishing today. Now on to the fishing. We anchor on our first spot and caught a few shorts and some small keepers. Then all of a sudden on of the rods seems to be stuck. Eventually we free it from the bottom and up comes and eight pound cod. Of course just as his head comes up POP goes the leader! Typical. The spot didnt yield and more fruit so on to the next one. This spot was the spot of the day. We had a steady pick of keeper black fish and sea bass going when Travis says I think I have the bottom again(we donated 30 sinkers to the deep today). All of a sudden the rod begins to buckle and bend and he is on for a battle. After some skillful angling up comes massive tog like a submarine surfacing. Into the net he went. Fish measure 29.5 inches and weighed 13.5 lbs on the boga. However, this spot had more berthas ready to bite. We pulled a another fish just shy of 12lbs and 3 more slobs from 10-11lbs. All along picking away at nice togs and keeper seabass. The boys were spoiled because a 6lb fish became a small one. What a great stop! We finished out the rest of the day in the same area bouncing from spot to spot catching togs and sea bass the whole time. It was a great day on the water. The big togs are here! We are back at it soon. If anyone wants to get in on the action give Captain Jeff a call at 4134782300 or send us a message.
